Plant of the Week - SpireaVisit Begick Nursery & Garden Center  - we make gardening exciting!!

Spirea japonica ‘Neon Flash’
Neon Flash is a large variety with carmine-red inflorescences and bright new growth turning a deep green. This deciduous shrub has erect shoots and a clump forming growth habit. Leaves are lance shaped, dark green, toothed, to 5 inches long. Flowers appear in flat clusters in early summer. This plant works well in the front of a shrub border, the back of a perennial border, or as a foundation planting. This shrub can grow in either acid or alkaline soils and though it prefers moisture, can withstand some drought.

Incredible color in both foliage and flowers earned awards for this Japanese discovery. New growth is tinted purple turning to green as it ages. Entire plant becomes dark burgundy with cold in autumn. Dense habit is tidy and versatile, with high tolerance for snow damage. Full sun. Fast growth to 3 ft. tall and as wide.

Spirea albiflora ‘Japanese White’
The Spirea 'Japanese White', Spiraea albiflora, has bright green foliage, topped by heavy clusters of white blooms. This deciduous shrub is low growing and exhibits a rounded form. Japanese Whites are effective in mixed shrub plantings, low borders and clumped together. Grows 2’ by 2’ and very hardy, zones 3-8.

Spireas are covered with flat clusters of flowers in June and again off and on all summer, especially if the old flowers are pruned. Best if grown in sun but will tolerate partial shade and most have nice fall color. Spireas are great in shrub groupings, near buildings, mass plantings, and low hedges.
